ENGin is Hiring a Managing Director!
(Full-time, remote position)
ENGin is a global nonprofit organization that aims to connect Ukraine to the world in order to propel its postwar reconstruction and longer-term economic & social development. We’re doing this by pairing Ukrainian youth with English-speaking volunteers for English conversation practice and intercultural exchange.
We’re achieving nationwide change through a bottom-up, personal approach deployed at unprecedented scale: 100,000+ 1-on-1 connections. We aim to create an entire generation of English-fluent, culturally competent Ukrainians ready to rebuild their nation. You can read more about our work in this recent Washington Post article.
ENGin is one of the most dynamic organizations in its field - launched nearly three years ago, we’ve already reached nearly 30,000 participants. We’re hiring a US or Canada-based Managing Director to help guide the organization through its next phase of growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES
This role offers a unique combination of development and program management responsibilities. These two areas of focus will be shared with the CEO, with clear divisions of tasks and a total workload of 40 hours/week. We are ready to structure the role to best fit your skills and interests, selecting from among the following responsibilities:
Development

Create overall development strategy, prioritizing the highest-potential opportunities

Liaise with Director of Volunteering to optimize fundraising from past and current volunteers

Develop strategy for identifying and cultivating new individual donors outside ENGin's volunteer base

Engage with institutional donors (corporations and foundations); identify and pursue opportunities for funding

Collaborate with a new, growing board to optimize their role in fundraising
-
Identify strategic partnership opportunities, events, and PR opportunities that can help connect with future donors
Program
-
Work with board to develop long-term vision and strategic plan

Optimize digital communications strategy for potential and current students and volunteers across email and social media platforms

Manage onboarding process - identify and resolve operational challenges, improve onboarding process to ensure scalability

Manage current student experience - proactively identify and resolve challenges to ensure student satisfaction

Design and implement program expansions to increase impact (i.e. additional learning or language practice opportunities)

Form strategic partnerships to launch new short-term programs for targeted populations within Ukraine

Launch new revenue-generating initiative: teaching English speakers Ukrainian

Create and oversee the implementation of a human capital strategy for recruiting, training, and retaining a high-performing team
QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years of nonprofit experience - experience in international nonprofit setting a plus

2+ years of nonprofit leadership experience

Bias to action - you should be ready to jump in and learn by doing

Creative thinking and problem-solving skills - ability to adapt conventional approaches to ENGin’s unique context

Adaptability and flexibility in a startup environment; comfort with growth and change

Excellent communications skills - ability to build relationships with a diverse variety of stakeholders, donors, and supporters

Comfort working in a full virtual environment

Familiarity with Ukraine/Ukrainian culture is a plus
OUR TEAM
We are a young, energetic, drama-free, majority female virtual team of about 30 (most located in Ukraine and a few in the US).
LOGISTICS
This position reports directly to the CEO and will closely liaise with our Director of Volunteering in the US and our Director of Communications in Ukraine.
