ENGin, a rapidly growing startup nonprofit that connects Ukrainian students with volunteers in the US for free English speaking practice sessions, is seeking a manager. This role is a unique opportunity to help run and grow an organization while positively impacting the lives of hundreds of students.
1. Manage onboarding processes
- Onboard students and volunteers, including verifying application integrity, scheduling & conducting interviews, matching students with volunteers, and sending email updates to applicants.
Collect and analyze data on the effectiveness of the onboarding process; implement process changes and improvements.
Answer questions from prospective volunteers and students.
2. Manage active students and volunteers
- Troubleshoot student/volunteer issues - handle complaints, process rematching requests and dropouts, issue volunteer certificates on request.
Own ENGin email mailbox; respond to all questions and inquiries.
Send monthly update emails.
Collect and analyze feedback from students and volunteers.
3. Help plan ENGin strategy
- Identify both minor and big-picture challenges/obstacles and help brainstorm ideas for solving them
Proactively seek out opportunities to improve and grow ENGin
Help implement new program offerings and develop a sustainable operating model
Attention to Detail: This role has a major operational component - you will be responsible for keeping ENGin’s main processes running smoothly, and your work will directly affect hundreds of people. Thus, a high level of responsibility and commitment to 100% accuracy is essential.
Critical Thinking: While some of your tasks will be routine, many will require you to think critically. These include both bigger and smaller questions: how should you resolve a particular student complaint? How should you change the matching process to decrease the average time it takes to match participants? How fast should ENGin grow over the next six months?
Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills: This role requires English fluency, as all work will be conducted in English. You should be prepared to communicate every day with students, volunteers, and ENGin team members via email, video chat, and WhatsApp. You will need to clearly answer questions and provide updates on various aspects of your work. You must be able to represent ENGin in a professional manner when corresponding with current and potential participants.
Flexibility: You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with shifting priorities, changing processes, etc. Flexible thinking and comfort with ambiguity are a must!
Motivation: You should be comfortable working independently without close oversight of every detail. You will be expected to proactively share any issues or concerns and ask for help when it is needed. Ideally, you would also proactively share your thoughts for improving our operations (even without being asked!)
This is a virtual role with flexible hours. You must have access to a reliable internet connection in a quiet, professional space and an up-to-date computer with webcam and microphone. Afternoon, evening, and occasional weekend availability is required.
We are looking for full-time candidates, but will also consider part-time (30 hours/week minimum). Salary depends on hours and experience, starting at ~$300/month for full-time.
