About Us

Full Stack Developer 

ENGin is looking for a full-stack developer experienced with Java and Angular to help us launch a cutting-edge online platform that will help rapidly scale our English language program. We have been working on the project since last spring and need another set of hands to complete it. 

 

This is a fully virtual role with flexible hours. You will work closely with our lead developer to prepare the platform for launch, fix bugs, and add new features. We will consider both candidates who can make a short-term commitment (2-3 months) and those who prefer a longer-term commitment. 

Who We're Looking For 

Our ideal candidate will have excellent technical skills and will be comfortable working in a start-up environment (independent, proactive, flexible, comfortable with change and ambiguity). Also looking for strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.

 

You should have experience with: 

Frontend - Angular, Typescript, Sass

Backend - Spring Boot, Java, Kotlin

DBs - MySQL, Redis

Infra - Azure, Kubernetes, TeamCity

 

Experience in working with Zoom or Telegram APIs would be a plus

 

We will pay a competitive salary based on experience. Minimum 30 hours/week. 
 

The Project 

Our platform centralizes key program functionality for students, volunteers, and staff. We are close to launching the alpha version of the platform. 

Current participant functions include account creation, signup form, placement test, interview scheduling, tracking application progress, session scheduling and tracking via Zoom integration, receiving matched volunteer/student info, viewing profile and session history, and email/Telegram notifications. 

 

Current staff roles and functions include: interviewer (scheduling interviews, conducting interviews, sending interview notes/decisions), marketer (viewing recruitment funnel), matcher (algorithm-assisted matching students to volunteers), program manager (viewing and editing participant records), admin (adding staff members, viewing dashboard with key data, monitoring interview schedules, changing key criteria). 

 

Future functions include chat, forums, announcements, interactive videos and text content, rewards/levels system, etc.

Curriculum Developer

ENGin, a rapidly growing nonprofit that provides free, high-quality speaking practice for young English learners in Ukraine, is looking for a Curriculum Developer. This role is a unique opportunity to help grow a dynamic, innovative organization while positively impacting the lives of thousands of students. 

 

While the idea of teaching English isn’t new, our model is unique and our scale is unprecedented – our team is building something that has never been done before. We match Ukrainian students age 13-22 with fluent English speakers from the USA and other countries all over the world for weekly 1-on-1 online practice. While conversing with their volunteer peers, our students break the language barrier by practicing their speaking skills, while also breaking intercultural barriers between Ukraine and the rest of the world. Since the beginning of the program (early 2020), we already have helped more than 5,200 students and amassed almost 10,000 total participants. 

 

As a Curriculum Developer, you will be creating unique and attractive materials for volunteers and students to use during their online sessions. We are not a language school, hence our materials are not textbooks or formal lessons. This position requires creative thinking to develop new educational approaches and improve already existing ones to fit our unique format.

We are looking for a new team member with a high level of communication and digital skills and the motivation to work in a fast-paced non-profit start-up. The position is fully remote, with a weekly commitment of 20-40 hours.

Our ideal candidate will have:

 

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in teaching and creating educational materials and plans for studying English;

  • Advanced level of English;

  • Higher education in the field of English Philology or any English or education related fields;

  • High level of technical competence and knowledge of modern approaches to online learning;

  • Stable internet connection in a quiet, professional space and computer with a camera and microphone;

Your average week will consist of:

 

  • Pedagogical design and planning of educational programs and plans for English speaking practice to be used by our Ukrainian students and volunteers;

  • Developing and improving our session materials;

  • Adapting materials to different subsets of students - for instance, by age, geography, English level, interests, etc;

  • Creating training materials (instructions, webinars, informational videos etc.) explaining various techniques to be used by students and volunteers;

  • Systematic maintenance of developed materials;

  • Other administrative tasks, as assigned;

  • Cooperating with management of the organization on development of new projects and ideas.

SMM/PR Specialist

  • Creating and updating our SMM strategies, media planning, development of weekly/monthly content plans;

  • Maintaining our social media pages and channels (Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, etc.), posting materials and communicating with our followers;

  • Attracting new followers and deepening the engagement of existing ones;

  • Regularly writing texts creating visual and video content;

  • Collecting and reviewing analytics and implementing improvements;

  • Cooperating with opinion leaders: finding and selecting targets, preparing ideas for cooperation, forming partnerships that can help build our brand and expand our audience;

  • Launching and leading advertising campaigns (in foreseeable future);

  • Improving our reputation and cooperating with existing network of partners on joint informational campaigns;

  • Cooperating with management of the organization on development of new projects and ideas.

Director of Programs

ENGin, a rapidly growing nonprofit that provides free, high-quality speaking practice for English learners in Ukraine, is looking for an experienced Director of Programs (5-15 years relevant work experience) to join our leadership team.

This role is a rare opportunity to help grow and lead a dynamic, innovative organization while positively impacting the lives of thousands of students. All work is done virtually; full-time (40 hours/week). Competitive salary.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Programs will be responsible for the overall management of the ENGin program in Ukraine, which includes four main areas:

  • Attract participants

  • Onboard participants

  • Ensure participant success

  • Raise funds to run program

(1) Attract participants:

Oversee media relations and social media strategies, including collaborations with other organizations for mutual promotion. Oversee the development of student recruitment partnerships in Ukraine and volunteer recruitment partnerships worldwide. Manage the creation of marketing materials for different audiences. Represent the program for a variety of audiences.

(2) Onboard participants:

Oversee the development, operation, and continuous improvement of a cutting-edge online platform to onboard students and volunteers and manage all active participants. Manage online student and volunteer trainings for new participants.

(3) Ensure Participant Success

Ensure a high-quality program experience for both students and volunteers, including curriculum, community, and customer service. Implement an impact measurement / evaluation system. Help lead two new initiatives: Partnerships with corporations to connect students to professional opportunities and ENGin for Educators, a spin-off program for English teachers at our students’ schools.

(4) Raise funds

Collaborate with ENGin CEO to develop and implement a funding strategy, with a primary focus on corporate sponsorships and program revenue and a secondary focus on grants from large international donors.

Note: ENGin currently has a team of 20 mostly part-time staff. Responsibilities include determining the optimal team structure and hiring new employees as needed to achieve the above goals.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful track record of designing, implementing and leading complex programs in the education or youth development sector

  • Recognized technical expertise and leadership focused on positive youth development

  • Proven leadership qualities and excellent management and teambuilding skills: at least 2 years experience managing other employees

  • Suitability for a startup environment: We are a young, energetic team. We move quickly and think flexibly. We are changing our processes often to improve them and learning every day. Flexibility and a positive attitude are key.

  • Ability to establish and nurture strong working relationships with government officials; community leaders, local officials, media, civil society, private sector leaders; international donors; and other key stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to track and manage large budgets and plan both strategically and creatively to meet project objectives

  • Ability to cultivate relationships with potential funders

  • Proficient and comfortable with contemporary digital platforms for collaboration and communication

  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Volunteer Partnerships Lead

ENGin, a rapidly growing English language nonprofit, is seeking a part-time Volunteer Partnerships Lead. This is a fully remote role with flexible hours.

Responsibilities

 

This part-time role involves reaching out to faculty and administrators at high schools, colleges, universities, and other nonprofits to share our program, answer questions, and encourage them to tell their students about volunteering at ENGin. 

 

Our outreach is targeted to students who are already seeking community service opportunities - National Honor Societies, International Baccalaureate programs, Key Clubs, Scouts, university community service offices and scholarship programs, etc. Our current partners are located in the US; in 2022, we would like to continue outreach across the US while also exploring partnerships in Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

For this role, we are looking for an outgoing individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills and 2+ years of relevant experience. You should be comfortable working independently and thinking critically.

Instructional Designer / Training Expert

ENGin, a rapidly growing English language nonprofit, is seeking a part-time, contract Instructional Designer for a short-term project. This is a fully remote role with flexible hours. Total commitment estimated at 10-30 hours. We are also open to continued collaboration if all goes well. 

Project Description

We onboard hundreds of volunteers and students every month. We need to provide them the information they need to succeed in our program in an engaging, clear, and time-efficient way. Our greatest challenge is presenting 60-75 minutes of dense logistical details to teenagers with short attention spans. We have an existing presentation and a volunteer handbook that you would work to revamp and improve. 

 

We are looking for someone with prior experience designing interactive, highly engaging, and effective training or instructional materials for teenagers. You should have experience with designing live online trainings as well as self-guided materials. Experience with foreign language learning or tutoring programs preferred.

Customer Service Team Lead

ENGin, a rapidly growing startup based in the US and Ukraine, is looking for a remote full-time Customer Service Team Lead. This role is a unique opportunity to help grow a dynamic, innovative organization while positively impacting the lives of thousands of young Ukrainians. 

ENGin provides free, high-quality English speaking practice and cultural exchange for Ukrainian students age 13-22.  To date, over 5,500 students and 4,800 volunteers have participated in our online program. We are continuing to grow rapidly, with a goal of reaching 100,000 students. With a unique peer-to-peer learning approach and unprecedented scale, we're creating an innovative model for transforming an entire country using the power of one-to-one connections. 

We currently offer customer service via email using the Zendesk platform, and have a team of 3 part-time agents. ​

Responsibilities:
 

  • Oversee agents to ensure accurate, timely responses to all student and volunteer questions 

  • Professionalize our operational processes and build agent training materials to improve the quality of our customer service 

  • Explore opportunities for offering support via alternative channels (Facebook/Instagram messages, live chat, help center, etc) 

  • Hire and train new agents as needed 

  • Personally respond to complex tickets

  • Collaborate with team members as needed to gather information to solve complex cases


Requirements:
 

Our primary requirement is 1+ year experience leading a customer service team. Ideally, this experience would be in a related field (for example, providing support for a technology product OR an education product/service OR providing support to teenagers/young people). We are also looking for:

  • Fluency in English and Ukrainian 

  • Excellent communication skills
