About Us

Full Stack Developer 

ENGin is looking for a full-stack developer experienced with Java and Angular to help us launch a cutting-edge online platform that will help rapidly scale our English language program. We have been working on the project since last spring and need another set of hands to complete it. 

 

This is a fully virtual role with flexible hours. You will work closely with our lead developer to prepare the platform for launch, fix bugs, and add new features. We will consider both candidates who can make a short-term commitment (2-3 months) and those who prefer a longer-term commitment. 

Who We're Looking For 

Our ideal candidate will have excellent technical skills and will be comfortable working in a start-up environment (independent, proactive, flexible, comfortable with change and ambiguity). Also looking for strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.

 

You should have experience with: 

Frontend - Angular, Typescript, Sass

Backend - Spring Boot, Java, Kotlin

DBs - MySQL, Redis

Infra - Azure, Kubernetes, TeamCity

 

Experience in working with Zoom or Telegram APIs would be a plus

 

We will pay a competitive salary based on experience. Minimum 30 hours/week. 
 

The Project 

Our platform centralizes key program functionality for students, volunteers, and staff. We are close to launching the alpha version of the platform. 

Current participant functions include account creation, signup form, placement test, interview scheduling, tracking application progress, session scheduling and tracking via Zoom integration, receiving matched volunteer/student info, viewing profile and session history, and email/Telegram notifications. 

 

Current staff roles and functions include: interviewer (scheduling interviews, conducting interviews, sending interview notes/decisions), marketer (viewing recruitment funnel), matcher (algorithm-assisted matching students to volunteers), program manager (viewing and editing participant records), admin (adding staff members, viewing dashboard with key data, monitoring interview schedules, changing key criteria). 

 

Future functions include chat, forums, announcements, interactive videos and text content, rewards/levels system, etc.

Director of Programs

ENGin, a rapidly growing nonprofit that provides free, high-quality speaking practice for English learners in Ukraine, is looking for an experienced Director of Programs (5-15 years relevant work experience) to join our leadership team.

This role is a rare opportunity to help grow and lead a dynamic, innovative organization while positively impacting the lives of thousands of students. All work is done virtually; full-time (40 hours/week). Competitive salary.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Programs will be responsible for the overall management of the ENGin program in Ukraine, which includes four main areas:

  • Attract participants

  • Onboard participants

  • Ensure participant success

  • Raise funds to run program

(1) Attract participants:

Oversee media relations and social media strategies, including collaborations with other organizations for mutual promotion. Oversee the development of student recruitment partnerships in Ukraine and volunteer recruitment partnerships worldwide. Manage the creation of marketing materials for different audiences. Represent the program for a variety of audiences.

(2) Onboard participants:

Oversee the development, operation, and continuous improvement of a cutting-edge online platform to onboard students and volunteers and manage all active participants. Manage online student and volunteer trainings for new participants.

(3) Ensure Participant Success

Ensure a high-quality program experience for both students and volunteers, including curriculum, community, and customer service. Implement an impact measurement / evaluation system. Help lead two new initiatives: Partnerships with corporations to connect students to professional opportunities and ENGin for Educators, a spin-off program for English teachers at our students’ schools.

(4) Raise funds

Collaborate with ENGin CEO to develop and implement a funding strategy, with a primary focus on corporate sponsorships and program revenue and a secondary focus on grants from large international donors.

Note: ENGin currently has a team of 20 mostly part-time staff. Responsibilities include determining the optimal team structure and hiring new employees as needed to achieve the above goals.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful track record of designing, implementing and leading complex programs in the education or youth development sector

  • Recognized technical expertise and leadership focused on positive youth development

  • Proven leadership qualities and excellent management and teambuilding skills: at least 2 years experience managing other employees

  • Suitability for a startup environment: We are a young, energetic team. We move quickly and think flexibly. We are changing our processes often to improve them and learning every day. Flexibility and a positive attitude are key.

  • Ability to establish and nurture strong working relationships with government officials; community leaders, local officials, media, civil society, private sector leaders; international donors; and other key stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to track and manage large budgets and plan both strategically and creatively to meet project objectives

  • Ability to cultivate relationships with potential funders

  • Proficient and comfortable with contemporary digital platforms for collaboration and communication

  • Strong representational and diplomatic skills

  • Fluency in written and spoken English

  • Fluency in Ukrainian or Russian

Customer Service Team Lead

ENGin, a rapidly growing startup based in the US and Ukraine, is looking for a remote full-time Customer Service Team Lead. This role is a unique opportunity to help grow a dynamic, innovative organization while positively impacting the lives of thousands of young Ukrainians. 

ENGin provides free, high-quality English speaking practice and cultural exchange for Ukrainian students age 13-22.  To date, over 5,500 students and 4,800 volunteers have participated in our online program. We are continuing to grow rapidly, with a goal of reaching 100,000 students. With a unique peer-to-peer learning approach and unprecedented scale, we're creating an innovative model for transforming an entire country using the power of one-to-one connections. 

We currently offer customer service via email using the Zendesk platform, and have a team of 3 part-time agents. ​

Responsibilities:
 

  • Oversee agents to ensure accurate, timely responses to all student and volunteer questions 

  • Professionalize our operational processes and build agent training materials to improve the quality of our customer service 

  • Explore opportunities for offering support via alternative channels (Facebook/Instagram messages, live chat, help center, etc) 

  • Hire and train new agents as needed 

  • Personally respond to complex tickets

  • Collaborate with team members as needed to gather information to solve complex cases


Requirements:
 

Our primary requirement is 1+ year experience leading a customer service team. Ideally, this experience would be in a related field (for example, providing support for a technology product OR an education product/service OR providing support to teenagers/young people). We are also looking for:

  • Fluency in English and Ukrainian 

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Attention to detail and high level of responsibility

  • Ready to work in a fast-paced startup environment with dynamic changes in priorities and processes

  • Excited about our mission to transform Ukraine through English fluency

  • Stable internet connection in a quiet, professional space and computer with a camera and microphone

Online Community Manager

ENGin is looking for an experienced professional (2+ years of relevant experience) to help build and manage our student and volunteer community. Remote job, part-time.

Thousands of Ukrainian students and English-speaking volunteers participate in our online English program. Each student is paired with a volunteer for weekly 1-on-1 sessions - as such, student-volunteer pairs develop strong 1-on-1 relationships. We'd like to build out a broader ENGin community so that every student and volunteer feels that they are part of a big ENGin family. By doing so, we will increase motivation, satisfaction, and willingness to support the program (give feedback, share information with friends and classmates, etc). 

Responsibilities:
 

  • Develop a plan for our community that may have the following elements:

    • Themed group chats for students, volunteers, or both

    • Informal, fun online events for students, volunteers, or both

    • Occasional contests

    • Regular challenges inviting students and volunteers to share stories, photos, and videos on social media or group chats

    • Rewards/levels system rewarding active participation in all aspects of the program

  • Implement the plan, coordinating all chats, events, contests, challenges, etc. 

  • Clearly communicate all possibilities to participants, using group chats, social media, email list, and new proprietary ENGin platform 

  • Gather feedback and data and adjust/improve plans as needed 

  • Collaborate with others as needed (for example, find and manage volunteers to moderate a themed chat; find a subject matter expert to lead a volunteer workshop, etc)


Requirements:
 

  • Prior experience managing a large, active online community, ideally an international community with participants aged 13-25

  • Understanding of our target audience - their interests, needs, and what kind of content/opportunities will inspire high levels of interaction 

  • Fluency in Ukrainian

  • English level of B2 or higher  

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Attention to detail and a high level of responsibility

  • Ready to work in a fast-paced startup environment with dynamic changes in priorities and processes
