Why to Start Volunteering with ENGin

Volunteering is a powerful way to impact the world while gaining valuable experiences and skills positively. It is not just about giving back but about personal growth, connection, and learning.

The ability to communicate effectively in English is more than a necessity in today's globalized society. It opens up an endless realm of possibilities. For young Ukrainians, learning English is not just about getting ahead in life but also a crucial step toward their country's long-term development as it rebuilds from years of conflict. Consider beginning your volunteer work with ENGin, a worldwide nonprofit organization that is at the forefront of this revolutionary movement.

A Vision for a Flourishing Ukraine

The goal of ENGin is simple and admirable: to give every young Ukrainian a foundation in conversational English. The future of Ukraine is more than just learning the language in this vision. ENGin helps Ukraine rebuild economically and socially after the war by facilitating communication with the rest of the world. Ukrainian youth can lay the groundwork for a prosperous country by learning a second language so that they can take advantage of new educational and employment opportunities.

Empowerment Through Language

Learning a new language opens doors, but it also empowers individuals. The ability to communicate in a second language not only broadens one's horizons but also increases one's sense of independence. This transformative potential is acknowledged by ENGin, and its effects go beyond merely enhancing linguistic competence. Young people in Ukraine have a safe place to go once a week for one-on-one conversations facilitated by ENGin. Having these chats is a great way to practice the language, but it is also a great way to get some emotional support and make a new friend on the other side of the world. This unique approach combines language learning with human connection, fostering resilience and hope.

Global Collaboration for Ukraine's Future

The future of Ukraine depends on effective international cooperation, including foreign expertise, investment, partnerships, and tourism. ENGin builds a bridge between Ukraine and the rest of the world by pairing up volunteers and students. Every connection established through ENGin brings Ukraine one step closer to the rest of the world. You can help Ukraine on its way to a free and prosperous future by volunteering with ENGin.

Why ENGin?

  • High-Impact, Cost-Effective Program

With nearly universal access, ENGin's program stands out as the only one of its kind in Ukraine. Any young Ukrainian can attend, no matter where they are or what they have envisioned. Through the use of technology, ENGin enables students to communicate with fluent English speakers directly from their smartphones or laptops. This accessibility ensures that anyone with the desire to learn can do so.

  • Personalized Learning

Volunteers can adapt their teaching methods to meet the particular needs of each student, thanks to ENGin's one-on-one practice sessions. This personalized approach maximizes speaking time for students, ensuring rapid progress in just a few months. As a volunteer, you will see the real results of your work as your students' abilities and confidence increase.

  • Transformational Impact

The mission of ENGin is not to affect only a small number of people's lives; rather, it is to affect the lives of all of the young people in Ukraine. ENGin is helping to shape a brighter future for Ukraine by establishing English language proficiency as the accepted norm in that country.

Let's See What Our Volunteers Tell About Being Volunteers at ENGin

To truly understand the value of volunteering with ENGin, let's hear from some of our dedicated volunteers. These testimonials offer a glimpse into their experiences and the impact volunteering has had on their lives.

Claire Schneider

“Volunteering with ENGin is a deeply rewarding experience. It allows me to channel my outrage at the war into something positive. Even though my buddy and I are from a different generation, we have so much in common and I look forward to speaking with her every week. I also love collaborating with Margarita on events. I am so grateful to have new friends in different countries, knowing I can offer support while learning from them.”

The ENGin team is extremely grateful for Claire's tremendous support and help. Apart from volunteering, Claire actively holds online training and events for ENGin students and volunteers. This is so valuable for the program because Claire has much to share in her pedagogical practice. Claire manages her own language school and is a professional ESL trainer, a co-author of the book “Teaching the Pronunciation of English: Focus on Whole Courses” (2017), and “Color Vowel Trained Teacher.”

Robert Delp

“It seemed like a perfect opportunity to leverage my experience to help others improve their English and maybe help their education or careers. I did not plan to request multiple students, but when ENGin requested help for more students, I decided to do so, I am glad I did. I have learned so much about Ukraine, Ukrainians, and their great culture. The different personalities and experiences of each student make for great conversations. I look forward to each session and enjoy them a great deal. Thank you, ENGin, for providing this service. It is a win/win for both student and teacher!”

Robert Delp, a Texas-based ENGin super-volunteer working with 4 students. Retired from a successful restaurant management career, he taught conversational English at his local library when the war broke out. In March, looking for ways to support Ukraine, he came across ENGin.

Matt Valin

Meet US volunteer Matt who has lived in Ukraine since 2015. He joined ENGin recently when we expanded the program’s age limit. With a master's degree in education (specialized in English) as well as undergraduate degrees in English, Matt thought he would use his professional teaching skills of over 10 years in helping Ukrainians learn English. Here is what he says about his experience with ENGin so far:

“My buddy is very thoughtful and a pleasure to speak with. She started the program with a very high level, and speaking with her is close to speaking with a native speaker.”

Matt visits home overseas every Summer and Christmas, but as he mentions, over time he has grown to accept Ukraine as his home more and more. He always donates money to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Apart from ENGin, Matt was working as a teacher in Kyiv free of charge over the Summer. Matt’s story about helping others is very inspiring, and we are proud of having such devoted volunteers all over the world at ENGin, who support Ukraine.

Estella Yan

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to connect with a peer in Ukraine through ENGin. I have formed an unique connection and have learned so much about Ukrainian culture.”

Estella Yan has loved weekly tutoring sessions with her friend Valeriia. In addition to her volunteer work with ENGin, Estella has experienced volunteering in day surgery at her local hospital and leading a summer STREAM club for children. She loves to contribute to her community and always looking for opportunities to get involved. Estella is interested in a career in health and medicine, so she also writes articles for a sports medicine blog focused on empowering female athletes known as ResilientHer.

Why does your heading start with poor English?

The infinite marker "to" is misused in this case.

Are you saying, "Why Volunteer for ENGin?"

Are you saying, 'How to volunteer with ENGin?"

Or, do you mean "Why and How to Volunteer for ENGin?"
