Robert Delp, a Texas-based ENGin super-volunteer working with 4 students. Retired from a successful restaurant management career, he taught conversational English at his local library when the war broke out. In March, looking for ways to support Ukraine, he came across ENGin.
Matt Valin
Meet US volunteer Matt who has lived in Ukraine since 2015. He joined ENGin recently when we expanded the program’s age limit. With a master's degree in education (specialized in English) as well as undergraduate degrees in English, Matt thought he would use his professional teaching skills of over 10 years in helping Ukrainians learn English. Here is what he says about his experience with ENGin so far:
“My buddy is very thoughtful and a pleasure to speak with. She started the program with a very high level, and speaking with her is close to speaking with a native speaker.”
Matt visits home overseas every Summer and Christmas, but as he mentions, over time he has grown to accept Ukraine as his home more and more. He always donates money to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Apart from ENGin, Matt was working as a teacher in Kyiv free of charge over the Summer. Matt’s story about helping others is very inspiring, and we are proud of having such devoted volunteers all over the world at ENGin, who support Ukraine.
Estella Yan
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to connect with a peer in Ukraine through ENGin. I have formed an unique connection and have learned so much about Ukrainian culture.”
Estella Yan has loved weekly tutoring sessions with her friend Valeriia. In addition to her volunteer work with ENGin, Estella has experienced volunteering in day surgery at her local hospital and leading a summer STREAM club for children. She loves to contribute to her community and always looking for opportunities to get involved. Estella is interested in a career in health and medicine, so she also writes articles for a sports medicine blog focused on empowering female athletes known as ResilientHer.
