How many Ukrainians are starting to work in international environments or with global clients where English is a must? This audience is growing every day. If you’re among them, you’ve likely realized the importance of using specific language and adopting new behaviors when communicating with foreign stakeholders, clients, and colleagues.


No need to overthink it! Today, we want to talk about two tough challenges people often run into when they step into leadership roles, especially in workplaces where you’re not just working in English, but also with different cultures.


How can you confidently facilitate any type of meeting?


To run an effective meeting, start with a clear purpose and agenda to keep the conversation focused. Share action items so everyone knows what to do afterward. Respect everyone’s time by starting and ending on schedule; this can be difficult at times but is a professional habit valued in many global workplaces, especially in Germany. Make sure you come prepared with all the information needed to make informed decisions.


Equally important is how you engage during the meeting. Give space for every voice, especially those who may represent different perspectives. Practice active listening by setting aside your own assumptions and focusing on understanding others. Wrap up by summarizing key points, confirming next steps, and sending a follow-up message. This will keep everyone aligned and accountable.

  • Pause: Take a moment to understand your emotions before reacting.

  • Listen: Genuinely seek and consider the other person’s perspective.

  • Acknowledge: Show you understand their view, and share if it changes yours.

  • Share: Calmly explain your perspective using “I” statements.

  • Focus on Goals: Find common ground and be ready to take breaks if needed.

  • Agree and Act: Confirm responsibilities and deadlines to ensure clarity.
